Preparing For Your Child’s First Visit

Tips to help make your child’s first dental visit a positive and enjoyable experience:

Preparing for your child’s first dental visit begins at home with you!

1

No Surprises!

Talk about the visit ahead of time. Let your child know they’ll be visiting the dentist soon — no surprises!

2

Explain what to expect.

Explain to your child that Dr. Charité and the Positiviteeth team will walk them through every step and answer all their questions.

3

Stay calm and positive.

Kids often reflect their parents’ emotions, so a relaxed attitude helps your child feel at ease too.

4

Use gentle words.

Avoid terms like “shot,” “needle,” or “drill.” Our team uses fun, kid-friendly language to make everything easy to understand.

5

Make it playful!

Read a children’s book or watch a children's show about going to the dentist. Pretend to “play dentist” at home.

6

Get your child involved!

Encourage your child to think of a fun question about their teeth to ask the dentist.

Open Door Policy

Before your first visit, we encourage you to give careful consideration to your child’s temperament and whether your parental presence vs. absence would promote the most positive experience for them during their dental appointment. At Positiviteeth, we have an open-door policy, and parents are welcome to stay with their children during their visit to help them feel safe and comfortable.

For safety, we kindly ask that siblings or children not being seen stay in the reception area with a supervising adult.
